    Red face Egg prep. questions!?!?

K, I have several questions.... I've been reading around threads, and I wanna make sure of a few things... Sorry, I know you have probablly heard these a 100x.... Please bear with me!
I plan to seperate Mojo & Karma in aprox. 3 weeks... (pair from Cue)

If I understand correctlly, countdown to Karma laying is 22-27 days after shed, correct???

Do I use the Huva metal grate/tray???

What are the red stoppers on the lid for? To drop a probe???

Because I'm using a therm. I can tighten the adjuster down on high?????

I have a batt. digi therm/humity reader inside, so I don't need to drop the therm. probe in, correct???

    I keep the Huva at 90% ??? (89-91) ?

What does the humidity need to be???

What do I place the eggs in... tuperware? Lid, or no?

Do I let fresh air in??? If so, how often???

I mix 1/2 verm. 1/2 water, I do this the day she lays???

How do I keep the verm. moist? Or will it keep through incubation???

How/if do I regulate the humidity???

I know it's early... but I wanna be ready...

    Thanks for any input!!! ME--->

    Re: Egg prep. questions!?!?

Woooooooah Laura I could have helped you out with some of these.

Not sure what you were asking about the thermostat probe, but yes it does need to be in the 'bator, otherwise the thermostat won't be able to control the temperature inside. The thermometer is just another source to read the temperature.

As long as you mix your vermiculite correctly the humidity should be good. Once the eggs are laid and in the incubator, you can observe them to decide if they need higher humidity.

You should go ahead and mix the vermiculite and set everything up a while before you are expecting her to lay, so you can make sure that everything is working correctly and the temps are staying constant.

I will do the best I can

1: Mine where ~35 post shed.

2: Sorry, never used a Huva

    3: Sound logical.

    4: Sorry

5: You will want to put the actual probe in the container that the eggs are in to get the best reading.

6: I set mine on the cooler side at 89%. This gives you more room in case the temps creep up during re-heat. Better safe than sorry even if the cooler temps might mean slightly longer incubation time.

7: Once you mix the vermic it will stay at ~100%.

8: I used a small shoe clear shoe box with lid and no holes.

9: You will provide plenty of fresh air by poking the at the eggs from time to time. This seems to be mostly needed at the end of the incubation period.

10: Mix in water till you grab the vermic and water almost drips. Too wet is worse than too dry. If they dimple in add more moisture.

11: You might have to add some water during incubation. Just keep an eye on the dimple factor and "clump" the medium in your hand from time to time.

12: Very slowly add water to the medium.

I hope this helps and I'm sure other with more experience will come in and offer more/better details
