Solution for keeping snakes in my cold basement
I have 2 regular females in sterlite containers. On a ranco thermostat with the ranco 11 inch flexwatt set to 94 on the warm side. But the cool side i cant get higher then 74 degrees with a 1500 watt oil filled heater in my basement. Would adding a thermostat set to 85 be a solution to this problum? My 1100 gram female hasent ate in 2 1/2 months due to this prob.

Re: Solution for keeping snakes in my cold basement
Depends on the size of your basement, how cold your basement is and the power of your oil filled heater, if it is on high and does not get the temps higher then 74 a thermostat won't help.
You might need one powerful enough to warm up the entire room or get a second one.

i have my ball in my room in the basement, i have a vent in my room that blows in hot air and as long as my door is closed it stays 65-70. If theres a way to do this and alomst seal the room it wil stay nice and toasty. I would stay away from space heaters. Also try pre scenting http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=60

Well i mean its not freezing down there. The heat pretty much raises to my living room and make the thermostat in my living room cut off. The one i have hooked to the flexwatt stays at 94 pretty easy.

My temp without the oil filled heater never goes as low as 65. But i thought that my cool side needs to be at 85?

I have also put a blanket on top of the containers to try to keep them warmer.

Re: Solution for keeping snakes in my cold basement
I bought some of the insulation they use on heating and cooling ducts and insulated the outside of my tubs with it. Helped me big time with the heating situation. I have mine in my basement as well which is usually around 68 degrees and it helped me get the temps I need. I also supplemented my cool end with a 3 inch flexwatt on a dimmer in conjunction with my helix controlling the main heat.

I'm with Spaniard on this one - if flexwatt can keep the warm end at 94 the simply adding more on the cool side with another thermostat set to 83 or so would seem to be the most reliable solution if not exactly the cheapest.
