Guyana red tail

Just picked up a guyana red tail sat at a show. I normally stay away from wc as i did with my others, but this one was so pretty I just could not resist. I was wondering if there is anything special i need to do with him/her besides check for mites, parasites, worms and all that and take a fecal sample to the vet. Oh i also isolated him like i normally do with all new arrivals any other suggestions . Im just kinda worried cause of stories i have heard. Any input on things anyone has learned from there past experiences would be appreciated .

Just give it a good 2+ weeks before you do any handling sessions to be sure s/he has an easier transition to captivity. I wish you the best and lets hope it calms down with time!

He is calm and seems relaxed, I know about the no handle rule. My rule is actually a bit different for all my snakes for the new. I do not handle them until they have had 4-6 meals and come out of there hides. I also do not attempt to feed until after the first week unless they show me signs of hunger.

A wild caught? Or farm hatched? Anyway, how big and from whom did you buy it from? A Wc will be a lot friskier and "wild" acting even after it calms down. They will never be a relaxed and lazy captive born and raised snake, but they will calm down a little. Some never do and others do quickly...it's a variant thing . I would treat it with ProvenAmite anyways, I treat EVERY snake that comes into my house first thing for mites and then get some good meals in it for a BiG and HealthY FecaL for the vet check. Its a Wild caught and is a young baby, its only 16-17 inches he seems relaxed from the little ive handled him like a total of 10 mins in 3 days, and that was when i was looking at him at the show and then putting him in the cage. When i put him in his new home he took a nice big drink of H2O then explored. I have done pam . I bought him from a guy that breeds and imports he was at a reptile show (harve de grace MD). Ive bought from this guy before with no probs and i do trust him .
