1st time tub set up
Ok, i could do with some help.....again and photos would be rock on ok, so i ordered my cb70 tub from reptile tubs.com and 1 foot of 11" flexwatt and i also got 1 foot of 3" incase i need it for the cool side i also have a herpstat on the way. OK my room is around 72-74 degrees at the moment (massachusetts) and i was wondering if the 11" flexwatt would heat the cool side to 82-84 i thought i would just buy the 3" cause its cheap. Anyway which way should i stick the flexwatt on to the tub ie the 11" running the lenght of the tub or the width and also if i need the 3" should i run it lenght ways or width ways? Also should i tape over all the flexwatt to attach it or just the perimiter of it thanKs for the advice everyone

whoa whoa, slow down tiger! lol
I do not think the 11" strip will heat the cool side that high. What herpstat did you get?

Ok maybe i should be more clear, i,m going to have the 11" flexwatt to heat the hot side but will that bring the cool side temp to 82-84 in a room that is 72-74 degrees or do you think i will need the 3" flexwatt to heat the cool side up? thanks

Here is what to do. Use the 11" for the hot side and the 3" for the warm side. Plug them both into a thermostat but you need to run a dimmer in circuit to the 3". That may work, wait for someone who has more experience with it.

Re: 1st time tub set up
I'm in MA, too With my tub setup, the 11" flex was heating up my warm side just fine--but my cool side was -slightly- too cool. It was hovering between 78-80, but I needed it bumped up a few degrees. I just couldn't up my room temp any higher because I -sleep- in here...and I can't sleep when it's so hot.
So, I had purchased a little (I think it's 3 x 11 or 5 x 11) Ultratherm Heat pad, thinking it would do the job for under my tub, but it didn't--so it was lying around unused because I replaced it with Flexwatt. I read somewhere on the forums that someone put a heat pad on -top- of their tank enclosure to keep their cool side temps up.
So, since I had the extra little pad (I use 11" flexwatt on the bottom of the tub), I plugged it in and set it on top of my tub. It did the trick and upped my temps to where they need to be--it hangs out at 83 on the cool side now.
It's just an idea.
