? about het Albino
If i were to buy a 50% het albino male and breed it to my normal female. Would i have to raise the babys and breed them back to each other to get a pure albino? I dont really have the cash to buy a pure right now so i wanted to go the cheap path lol

Well if you were to buy a 50% het albino male it is not a guarentee that he is a actual het. What i mean is once they go past being 100% hets its a gamble to the fact if they received the albino gene.If you want a true cheap route and still be alive(with 50% possible het you could be 80yrs old lol) to produce a albino buy a 100% het albino male. Then hold back all the females and breed to dad and you should have at least 1 albino out of 4 eggs(time taken 3 to 4yrs).I hope this helps

Re: ? about het Albino
Why not get two 100% hets? This is not an extremely expensive purchase; just make sure you only buy from a reputable seller with background info if needed.

Re: ? about het Albino
I bought my 100% het albino male from JnJReptiles. They are really nice people and have great prices. I would go with the 100% het male and female route also. This board is loaded with great people who can point you in the right direction!

The only sure way to get to those Albinos, assuming you have some time on your hands, would be to get a 100% Het male. With the price of definite het males at around $125 dollars, that is your best bet, and not all that expensive. Keep the females from the breedings, and breed them back to Dad and you should get an Albino or two. Good Luck.

I would also go with a pair of 100% hets. Or you can get a female het or a few 66% het females and when they are breeding size give them out on a breeding loan with someone who has a male albino. Then you can split the offspring, and will have all albinos and 100% hets. If you went with a 50% het male, you have a 50% chance of waiting and breeding for years just to find out you have all normals.

The most affordable way to get an Albino is getting 1.1 100% Het Albino or if you have the time get a male 100% Het albino and breed him to a normal female, then raise up the female offsprings to prove them out.
The second option will require patience and will add several more mouths to feed which you need to take into consideration as well when it come to the total cost.

Re: ? about het Albino
IMO I think it is getting to the point where it is not even worth buying a pair of het albinos. With male visual albinos being so cheap now I would just save up for and go with a visual. I am guessing you will be able to find a nice visual male for around $800 this season. If you want to go the really low cost way I would buy a 100% het male instead of a 50% and breed it to a few normal females. The price should not be much different between the 50% and 100% any more and then at least you know you have the gene. I would not pay any more than the price of a CB normal male for a 50% het albino male.

ok what kind of offspring would you expect to get from breeding an albino male to a normal female?
