Hides
Now that my new rack system is here it looks like I am going to need to get new hides for several of my snakes. In the past I have used tera-cotta pots but they are too big to fit in the racks. Any suggestions on what/where I can get new hides? The ones I have seen at a few stores specifically for reptiles are at least $10 each and I can't see spending a couple hundered on hides. It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional, lol.

Re: Hides
I really like the ones Jason posted. I've got to pick a couple of those up myself, since mine have just about outgrown their old ones.

I like those and the place with the best prices where you can find them is http://www.reptilesupply.com/
You can also use plastic bowls from walmart and for adult BP you an use small kitty litter pans.

Re: Hides
My snake's just a youngun', but he's using some upside-down small Cool Whip containers--and they fit in the tub
If you've got adults, though, that likely wouldn't work.
If you don't mind my asking, why are you getting hides for your rack? I had always assumed that the racks act, in effect, like hides--so hides aren't necessary?

That is the mentality of lots of people with racks. In my adult racks I offer a single hide on the cold side because that is the exposed side. When I make my hatchling rack I don't think I will use hides.

Re: Hides
Vaughn I think that's the same kitty litter pan I use in my 48 qt bp rack, except I put the hole in the side. I use hides in my shoe box rack only on the ones who don't want to eat. Sometimes there is just too much light getting into the rack and they won't eat. For the shoe box rack I spend the extra money on the Vision cave hides. Once the bp is moved up I can use it in a Leopard gecko tank (after serilization of course).
