Home made Enclosure Plexi Glass any objections?
I would like to build my own set up. Half these Aquariums are ridiculously priced and not what I am looking for to top it off. I was considering building one out of plexi glass so my BP had both width and height to enjoy. I can't do much with the tank. I would make vent holes on the sides and an easy drop in pan etc for the bottom. Anyone see any problems with this? Anyone actually done this before or have pics/ideas?
Thanks

Just make sure that you don't make it to big. Remember balls like close spaces. To much head room may cause stress and then you will have a problem. Build what your snake will like and you'll be fine. Best of luck
Get some pics so we can see.

The only thing I could think of is finding a proper top for it, unless youre making that too? Otherwise that sounds pretty cool. It always feels good when you look at something and know you made it.

Thanks. I am not going to make it ridiculously huge but well maybe like a 90 gallon flipped on its side if that makes sense. I would have lots of plants ( probably fake) Drift wood etc , enough to make it not feel so open, plus he would still have his beloved house that he live in too. I would be making the top of plexi glass aswell but have the most vent holes there and a spot for the heat lamps. The front would open like a regular door with hinges and a few hooks to keep it closed. Not sure if I want screening on it or not. It might stay more warm and humid without it.
I will definetly take pics if I ever get to do it. Just want to make sure I am not wasting my time even considering.

Craig has made a bunch of Plexiglass enclosers from what ive seen, and they all look amazing. I would suggest asking him about this if anybody.
Also, you said you thought the glass ones are a little to pricey for you. I dont know too much about the cost of Plexi glass but when i went to my local hardware store (with the same mindset that you have) it was very expensive, to my suprise. So make sure you know the price on what it will cost cuz from what ive seen, plexi isnt the cheap way out. But you said you wanted one to your specs so good luck. I would also like to try this sometime, so please, if you do build this, take pics as you do it so we can all learn. Good luck!

Ok so one 2X4 =$22 and some change . Not too bad but I don't want it all 2X4's. I guess it won't be as cheap as I hoped but probably cheaper in the long run for something custom I like

A few things:
- I would not build anything out of plexi-glass!!! It scratches very easy!!! You want polycarbonate.
- On a cage that size you will need at least 1/4"+++++ thick material with lots of glued in bracing. Lots of $$$$
- I can tell you already if you build this cage the way you should build it, it will cost much more than a glass tank. If it was cheaper, everybody would already be doing it.
- You may want to build a wood framed cage with glass inserts.
- If it were me and I wanted a clear cage, I would go with a 30-40gal breeder tank.

Well I was thinking of doing wood frames. I know plexiglass scratches but I mean its not like I am going to be banging into it or have anyting really sharp in there? I will look into the other thing you mentioned though. As I said I can't do much with a tank, I already have one.. so why would I want to go get another heh.
Someome else gave me a great idea though. I may try it. A cabinet cage with reptile carpeting. I'd just like something nice to look at and larger and different then a tank, and something I can have fun with and like as much as he will.

bp's on average are shy, nocturnal, and don't like to be in bright places 24/7. might not be the best choice for a clear display cage?
i would build a wooden cage with a clear front and a light looks. install a radiant heat panel hooked up to a good thermostat and you're set!, imo
