I don't wouldn't suggest this t-stat for a permanent solutions and please dont look at this for a cheap way out. I'd suggest a ranco or helix of you can but it would be great if you wanted to try this out and give everyone on here a report. If it ends keeping your temps right where you want them, keep it. I say i wouldn't use it only because it looks to use a dial and has no LCD screen so it probably wont be very acurate.

I agree, ranco, johnson, herpstat....

Alife's have a reputation for malfunctioning and leaving the heat source on. I had them years ago....Never again, I wouldn't touch them with a 100ft pole!

They are snake killers!

i used one of those for my very first bp setup. i wasn't happy with it (didn't keep steady temps and the dial was way off) so i purchased a zoomed repti-temp which wasn't great either. then i learned about herpstats and smacked myself for not having just spent the money on one of those in the first place. i now use both herpstats and helixes for my setups.

Definitely do not recommend it is the same than ESU which cost around 25$, it is not the most reliable nor the longest lasting one, I used to have one years ago my temps were fluctuating a lot and it died after 3 months, at that point you would be better of with a dimmer.

Depending on your needs I would suggest Ranco or Johnson (ideal for hobbyist with couple of BP or Herpstat & Helix (Ideal for people who breed)

I know those T-Stats might seem like a big investment if you did not intend to spend that much to start with, however in the long run you will not regret it, they are reliable and durable.

So the Ranco prewired for 74$ would be the way to go???

On my setup I have a total of 3 UTH's one on the cold side(i have a cold room) and 2 ont he hot side. For the winter the hot side was fine being on all the time but now that spring is here i can see the temps rising. Cold side is running a repti temp 500r from petco. which seems to work very well.

Since I need to get a t-stat now for the hot side, should i just get teh double ranco and call it a day?

I had the esu version for a while and it was just a waste of time and money. Go with herpstat for sure....
