    Strike...Miss...Question

so my biggest girl ate this evening. She's normally dead on when she strikes...she missed twice to night. No reason for concern really, except the second time she struck and missed, she kept opening her mouth as if she was adjusting her jaws. When exactly is it that a snakes jaws will unhinge themselves? Is it during the strike? or when the begin to swallow their meal?

    Re: Strike...Miss...Question

As soon as my snake catches a hint of the scent of a mouse I notice his head jerk up and he'll strike at just about anything...including me. Its nothing personal, thats just how they are.

On that second strike did it smack its head up against the wall of its cage? Could be why it was adjusting...

    Re: Strike...Miss...Question

first strike I think kinda startled her, and i heard a thud...no adjusting then. Second strike i didn't really see, just heard it, thats when I looked and saw her adjusting her jaws. third strike that rat was out fast...she ate without any problems or complications...i'm wondering if she may have gotten a mouth of aspen instead of rat.
