Stupid Wind!

Man I nearly just had a heart attack... all because of the wind.


About a hour ago a guy came up to my door and asked if I'd like him to shovel our pavement & drive way. I told him "no thanks I'm able to do it myself". He then goes on abou how he needs money and he's not charging a lot... that he is dressed for the cold weather and that I didn't have to go out there and do it myself, etc. I told him no thanks again and he then started to repeat himself. I told him to please leave and shut the door in his face. That was that.


About 15 minutes later I'm sitting in my room and I hear a "bang" from somehow and the dogs start going off. Figured the broom or the trash can blew over out front. A few minutes later I hear bang, bang, bang... SMASH and hear a bunch of glass break. The dogs are FLIPPING out in the dining room right by the kitchen and I'm thinking "OMG that money needing psycho just broke in to my house!" so I'm throwing on long pants, grabbing my jacket, cell phone, trying to put my shoes on and make a run for the front door since it was in the kitchen that I heard all the glass break and thats where the dogs were going nuts at. I screaming and cussing for them to "come on" half way out the front door because I've heard of people's dogs getting shot killed by robbers. Neither were listening so I ran back in there and grabbed them... right before hitting 9-1-----1 just to see that our back deck rain spout was now halfway in the kitchen.

Confused I was and thought "now what kind of robber would pull down the rainspout and put that though our glass back door?

Then it hit me that the wind had torn it down and it must have just been at the right angle and the wind blew it and that was what the banging and breaking of glass was. I then walked outside around my house and saw no foot prints on the deck or anywhere in the snow. So yeah now I have a ton of cold air blowing in my house because of the broken rain spout and broken door. I put some cardboard ofver the hole... but ugh yeah... we now need a new back door or atleast new glass... and a new rain spout.

Sorry about the window but lordy Allison you must have been scared! I know I would have been. Thank goodness in the end it's only a broken wind and a rain gutter to be repaired and you, your family and the dogs are all okay. Now join me in saying...

Gosh, Allison---that sucks!! Broken windows in the wintertime is no fun. But, on the bright side, at least your house isn't being broken into by crazy sidewalk-shoveling robbers!

I've been living with my husband for TOOO LONG! I was expecting some sort of bodily emittance update!


Definately a silver lining that is wasn't the crazed sidewalk shoveler! I indeed hate winter and I'm shivering over here in sympathy. Good luck getting a speedy repair on that back door!

That's sucks, I would have been having a heart attack.

Seems like things always happen like that in just the right time to scare ya.
I remember one time I was watching some show on tv about a murder or somthing along them lines when all of a sudden I saw a man on the enclosed porch and it scared the crap out of me. I soon found out I'd left the front door unlocked and the mailman decided it would be a good idea to come in and put a package we got on the porch.
