pot on the stove..
If you thought you left a pot on the stove (on very low heat) with a cup of moist rice in the pot, and were an hour away from home, what would you do?

Re: pot on the stove..
I have no ride, and quite honestly my man is nowhere near me or home and mad as heck..
See, I cooked it but turned it down to flame-almost-out level because the rice was not done enough.. then I served myself some, melted cheese into it.. went online awhile, then went back for seconds.. come to think of it, the cheese did not melt into it the second time; it was warm, not hot.. then when I had gone back for seconds, the rice did have water in it and the consistency was, well how rice gets when cooling in water.. pasty.
So logically I really don't have anything to worry about, but I am still having a conniption over it.. I want to call my neighbor but don't know his cell phone number, or those of any other neighbors..

Re: pot on the stove..
I jusut need to convince myself that there is no way that the flame could be on.. the rice would have been all dried out and still steaming hot.. I just need to calm down with the OCD I guess!

Re: pot on the stove..
I'd panic until I could get home. But hten, that's my usual fallback plan for most situations.

Re: pot on the stove..
Well I thought it through logically, and even if they were on, there would not be anything they could catch onto; no towels or items near them. I would think if anything, the rice would stay lukewarm, sice I had left it for about half an hour at whatever it was set at (whether I had turned it off, or forgotten it...) It could not have been left on if there were 10 still water left in there when I got my second helping.. or 2) the second helping were warm, not hot.. as it was.

Re: pot on the stove..
Just be careful when you first go into the house, in case the fire went out and the gas still on. Also be fully prepared to toss that pan too. I've got my fingers crossed that everything is ok.
