WHAT should be measured for temps...

This is something I should probably know by now, but WHAT should be 90F when talking about the warm side...
The surface of the glass is MUCH warmer than the air temps...
Glass temps under the substrate in my terr are 100 even, and the air temps are about 90...I just got a thermometer with a separate sensor and was wondering WHERE it should be placed...down on the glass or in the substrate or what?

I've heard that it should be measured on the glass, but that doesn't make much sense to me as the subtrate temps would only be 80 ish...

So should I back my temps down to 90 glass and 80 sub/air...or 95 glass...85 air...

Re: WHAT should be measured for temps...

The temps you should be measuring are the ones that your snake can come into contact with. If you are using substrate like aspen then it can dig on down to the bottom (which one of my snakes likes to do), that is where you would measure the temps.

Place the probe where the snake will bask. If it's on top of the substrate all of the time, then measure there, if its up against the glass under the substrate measure the temp down there. I use plain, white paper so it makes my readins pretty easy. BTW - the ambient temperature according to NERD website should be between 78 and 80 degrees (with a warning not to EVER let the ambient temp drop below 75 degrees).

    Hope that helps!

Re: WHAT should be measured for temps...

So the air temp should be the same on both sides and the glass bottom should be 90ish on the warm side?
