    Question Rat's chewing...

Who else here feeds live and with temp probe in their snakes enclosure?

Yesterday was feeding day and well #4 Acurite thermometer's wire got chewed on by the stupid rat and bit the dust. Yup I've lost 4 of those things in less then 6 months because of a chewy / nosy rat.

Any one else have this problem?
If not, then what are you using and how do you have your's set up?

I took my accurite out of my enclosure altogether. I put just the screen part in a tub everyday for a little while to check humidity though. I have been meaning to setup a dummy tub for that reason alone.

I feed live with a temp probes in my snakes enclosure... can't say that I have ever had this problem. When you put the rat into the enclosure of the snake... the snake should eat it right away... giving the rat no time to chew on anything right?

I would think that you could run the wire through some type of pipe to protect it, like how the wires that run to your electric meter are once they get to your house.

The snake will not always take it in seconds. Consider yourself lucky if all yours do.

LOL easier said then done. After about 15 minutes, everyone by then is wrapped around their food item. I wish it were that simple that I just put the rodent in there and BANG it was dead in a hot second.

Awesome idea, I'll have to really look in to that.

    Re: Rat's chewing...

The only rack that I have the probes in the tubs is my adult rack. So I am using a dummy tub set just like the other ones, hides, water, misting, etc ....

Neil, that is a good idea also -- but I think I'd be tempted to put a breathing , scaley, critter in there.
