Re: my new baby girl:) i think its a girl small tail smaller leg things w e those r:P

She is such a cutie I got her yesterday i dont know how old she is shes around 22 inches almost 2 feet. She was held everyday by the petstore and i got to hold her for 30 minutes inspecting and making sure shes tame. The pet store girl showd me how to pick her up gently but firm not slow not to fast just pick her up like you would pick up a cup. She also showd me if i needed to pick something off of her face to hold her neck or base of head firmly but not tight if i wasnt sure about her not biting. I am pretty sure she has no problem with me in her tank she has not tried to bite nor has she gotten in the possition. I believe that you should handle your snake the day or day after purchasing so you can jump start the bonding process. She isnt stressed we take her out in the morning and at night and check on her all the time. When any one of my family passes by my bed room door they will peek in and see what she is up to. She is VERY active even in the day but i do notice that the more later it gets the more active she will be. I hope her feeding goes well which will be tuesday. I know people say a snake always bites once atleast. But i dont know i cant see her biting me i wash my hands before after feed her in another tank im always gentle with her there shouldnt be any reason to bite me really. I also heard that a "normal" should cost 50 to maybe 100 dollers. Mine cost me 150 is their a reason for that at all?

Re: my new baby girl:) i think its a girl small tail smaller leg things w e those r:P

She's a gorgeous little snake! Congrats on choosing her!

Here's some thoughts for you, though...

    1. Snakes (all snakes!) are wild animals and are never "tame." They may be docile most of the time, but can still strike out unexpectedly. I'm not saying she WILL....I'm just saying she CAN. You'll have to set yourself to just accept it and not take it personally if she does. Sometimes it may be obvious to us why a snake strikes out...and sometimes it seems a complete mystery.

    2. Handling snakes (especially a shy, nervous snake like a BP) immediately after bringing it home is not a good idea. They don't "bond" with us in any case, although in time they may come to recognize us and accept or tolerate our intrusions into their lives. But this acceptance comes only AFTER they've had a chance to settle in and feel secure in their new home. If she doesn't feel secure, she'll very likely refuse to eat.

    3. Constant motion, especially during the day, is a sign of stress. If you leave her alone and make sure there's not too much traffic around her enclosure, in a week or two, you'll likely see that she spends most of the time sleeping in one of her hides and only a short time wandering around outside...usually just to switch hiding spots or sniff around in hopes of finding a nice juicy rodent.

    4. You can try to feed on Tues if that's what you're really set on, just be prepared for her to refuse it. If she does...wait a full week before trying again. BP's live life very slowly...and nothing happens quickly or overnight for them. It can take many, many days before they realize and accept that they are in a safe, non-threatening environment.

    5. Sexing by looking at the tail is highly inaccurate...however, if you've no intentions of breeding anytime soon, it's fine to assume she's a girl.

Good luck with her! I hope you stick around and share lots of pics of her growing up!

Re: my new baby girl:) i think its a girl small tail smaller leg things w e those r:P

I understand about the tame stuff i know that you cant. My family has grown up with snakes ever sence i was a child they have had them and raised bermese pythons constricters and as a child i would go into the garden and catch garter snakes we would have over 10 snakes at a time for breeding i left home to live with my grandparents at 16 and it was a very sad goodbye to all my snake buddies. Well when i got to my grandparents i got a bearded dragon and i like to think hes bonded to me but i know hes not but he always comes to me when someone picks him up. Maybe this is just a smell thing or something i really dont know. I have NEVER been bitten by a snake i have held and picked up over 40 snakes and have NEVER been bitten. All my parents snakes are still alive they just have 5 now 2 bermese 1 ball python and 2 california king snakes and my sister owns 3 differint types of snakes and i own 1 ball python not enterested in breeding alot of hard work put into that love my ball python even if he does bite me i know that it was my fault and not take it out on him at all. Im just hoping for the not so hurt bite as ive not been bitten before Very pleased with his attitude actually we picked up a mouse today to see if he would take it and yep he took it streight away what a good little python gotta love him. And i know not to pick him up for atleast 2 days ill give him 3 just incase i dont need any regurge my sister has that problem. My sisters 16 now and she sadly get very bored of he snakes so i usually end up shipping them and selling them as all hers bite for some reason i guess they dont like people. I will still pick up garter snakes if i see one but they have never bitten all my python does is take an adventure around my neck arms or i wear her as a braclet around the house.

Cool Re: my new baby girl:) i think its a girl small tail smaller leg things w e those r:P

AWWWWW SO CUTE!!!!... my little one is only 18.5 inches and 97 grams. I would suggest taking your baby to the vet,if you havent already, just to be sure if its a healthy "girl". Looks can be deciving. ^_^ *sigh* ahhh motherhood... if you have researched sexing a BP by probing and popping.. DONT DO IT YOURSELF!!..someone, who didnt know how, at a store near my house seriously injured my friends BP... it was horrible... give your baby two weeks to get used to its new home... I didn't but I'm sure kyna would be alot less stressed if I had... well I hope we get to chat again soon!

HeHe spurs all i can think of are those spurs on cowboy boots here It was weird the petstore sold her for 159 when i know i saw a Ball Python there for only 60 dollers confusing maybe theres more to her then i think. Yes she came with vet papers she was at the vet on last thursday which the papers are signed i got a vet appointment next month on the 15th just incase the petstore said they would pay for it because they "garantee their animals are in perfect health" so they said okay we can pay for that. Gotta love petstores well the one that i go to. I almost baught a ferret cause they were so damn cute little babies.

Im not using for breeding i dont need to sex her as i dont really mind name is Chaos anyway i still call her a she or he whatever i feel like calling her lol.
I would never do anything that might cause her damage like that. I wont force feed her either id take her to the vet to do that for me.
