Hook training

Hello i've been thinking about hook training my female BCI she's just 2ft right now but im wanting to teach her so when she's full size she is used to it.And i plan on adding to my collection, what im wondering is how and what is the best hookes you can get. I have never seen anybody use one in front of me before so im lost on how you use one. Also do BCI get to big to get them out with hooks? Can anyone give me some pointers and suggestions i want to make it where i can use the hook to take every snake i have out of it's cage with them. Thanks Aaron

On being too big to get them without hooks it depends. It depends on how the enclosure is (is it real tall and open from the top? is it real short and hard to maneuver your arms inside to grab a snake?), how aggressive the snake is, and how sure you are of yourself to know what to do in the event of an emergency. Even at 6.5 feet and 15 lbs my RTB was a handful at times and there was once that I wish I would of had someone there to help me with her.

right now she is in a 12Qt plastic shoebox container but i'll have her in a AP cage when she's older. Im needing some help on how to start hooking her in and around the house to get her used to working with one. Im needing a THermostat also im thinking about the Spyder Robotics MG reptiles is where i'll buy it from do you think it's over kill right now?

The best way to learn to use a hook is to practice with a small harmless snake. Hooks can be tricky with fast snakes. I practiced with my adult male pueblan. He is like a rocket when you touch him. The best thing that I have found with larger snakes is to hold the hook upright to hold back the business end (Head) and lift the body with your other hand.

Dont lift a large snake with just a hook. Some people use the two hook method and others use the large python hook from Midwest Tongs.
