    Oddest Thing I've Ever Seen

Well one of our 06 females has done the oddest thing I've ever seen a snake manage to do (and sorry folks I stupidly did not get a pic!)

I checked the babies the other day and Cara's water dish was missing. Nowhere to be seen. The 06's all have these heavy white ramikins that are just perfect in their smaller tubs and generally pretty hard to tip. Okay so there's Cara's blue bowl hide and when I peek in I can see her...funny though she's sort of stuffed right at the roof top entranceway.

I pop off the hide and there is Miss Cara coiled ever so neatly on the rim of her full water dish. Not a drop spilled and she's not soaking in the water. Now how in holy heck does something with no dang opposible thumbs manage this little feat? She somehow managed to tip or flip her hide over her water dish and then settled down in there quite pleased with herself I'm sure LOL.

ha how clever of her. one of my girls in particular likes to put her hide over top of her water bowl but i've never seen her in the hide with the bowl. i think sometimes they just do these things to amuse themselves and remind us that yes, they are so very smart indeed.

That's one thing I have yet to see my snakes do. I have to ask, what is that little animal in your avatar Frankykeno?

You know sometimes I wonder Em. Another of our 06's always and I mean every single, solitary time deposits her urates and feces into the very tiny rim of her blue bowl hide. Oh she's got a whole tub to dump in but I'm guessing it's highly amusing to stuff one's butt against one's hide and put your stinky stuff in the worst place for the human to get it out of LOL. Nothing more fun than chipping away a nice hard urate or repeatedly soaking a hide because little "Miss Chuckles" has done it yet again! I swear Mike and I are offering to pay each other to take our turn at the fun game of "wipe the crap outta the bowl rim". LOL

Funny how it's our female 06's that are doing this stuff. Little Riordan the 06 YB male just happily goes about his business, never causes any problems, eats his nummy rat pups with glee and basically is a little dreamboat. Malachi was much the same as a young snake. I think it's those spoiled girls LOL

Well funny you should ask Jack. I was reading our local newspaper on the bus last night and this creature was featured in a AP wire story. I just knew it had to be my new avatar LOL. It's supposed to be a slender loris though they were mentioning other highly endangered creatures and when I look up slender lorises none look like this funny little thing so it may have been incorrectly labelled as such. Whatever it is it was just too otherwordly to not go save a pic of it to make into a fun avatar!

No offense taken Joe and nothing in my coffee (well not that particular day anyways LOL). I was so amazed at what the snake had done I never thought to run get the camera and just sort of stood there trying to figure out how she'd done it. Of course she gave me the typical inscrutible snake look or possibly the "well if you are going to bother me the very least you could do is pass me a mouse!" look.

it's really quite ingenious if you think about it. she doesn't want it all over the place with her, so she deposits it nicely in the rim where it will be contained. quite fastidious. at least for her--i TOTALLY feel your pain on cleaning out the poo caked rim--gah, what a job!

lol Very cool Jo. I've freaked out more than a few times when I walk down and Ruby is nowhere in site with her bowl tipped over. She hides under it out of site completley but never attempted to hide her bowl.
