California exotic pet laws
I have a question about exotic pets in Cali. I live in Oregon right now with 2 ball pythons, 2 leopard geckos and one tarantula. I plan on moving to San Fran in a couple of years, and I am hoping that I can legally take my babies with me. Does anyone know what the laws and regulations in Cali are regarding exotic pets such as mine? Please let me know, I would die before I would give up my I would ever give up my babies!
Thanks so much
Liz

I live in Ohio so I'm not familiar with the laws in Califorinia. If you look on google I'm sure you could find out what's legal and what's not. Usually if there is a law against owning certain snakes it pertains to length of the snake. Also check the specific ordinances for San Francisco as well as the state.

Monitors and constrictors are prohibited in san Francisco. You should probaly call the relevant authirites to be sure. I think "technically" even ball pythons are prohibited. I'm pretty sure the regulations were okay with geckos and tarantulas, as well as scorpians and such.
I was looking into it for a visit, and was vetoed completely. I can basically take my cornsnake and my dogs. LOL. Actually.. I'm not sure if Tegus would fall into the monitor catagory, but I suspect so.(Legally I mean)

I used to live in San Francisco, and I didn't have a problem, but you can't sell them in the city, and they are technically illegal, I guess.

That sucks. I guess I will just have to move them there illegally. There is no way in hell I could ever give them up, not even for San Fran

Is there any sort of permit you could get?

Re: California exotic pet laws
Permits just announce to the legal system that you have them..

What are you going to do if someone there turns you in for having illegal reptiles? I would find somewhere else to live if its possible. This way you do not place your reptiles lives in danger(i have heard they kill reptiles that are illegal in some states) and you dont end up losing money and your reptiles.
