    Caging???

    I wondering if you used a rubbermaid tub as the cage, wouldn't the heat lamp melt it?

    No, as long as a thermostat is hooked up to prevent the temps from getting too high.
    EDIT: I'm a dope, I didn't really pay attention to the fact you were asking about a heat lamp, and I suppose that would probably melt the heck out of the plastic unless you stuck the thermostat probe on the lamp or real close to it.

    Most use a UTH (under tank heater)

    Depending on the ambient temps of the room, yes. I had a tub in a room with average temps of about 60 and using 2 thermostats and 2 strips of flexwatt, I kept my 81/91. So unless you are hitting subzero temps in your room, at least one side will be right

    yeah my room stays warm so just one heatpad on one side will do?
