Olive oil?
Does anyone use olive oil to help snakes with shedding difficulties? I was given some advice to use it on my snake Tigger and I wanted to check it out here first since I have no experience trying this remedy and am reluctant to do so without confirmation that no harm will come to Tigger.

Re: Olive oil?
I have never tried it before. I would say that you should just up his humidity, and if he has problems, then give him a soak. That's all the advice i have ever sceen, never anyhting about oil, ovcourse, i could definatley be wrong.

Re: Olive oil?
Unless you're planning on rubbing him with italian seasoning and roasting him over low flame, then no, olive oil isn't necessary
Proper husbandry goes a LONG way in keeping your snake happy and healthy.

Mmmm italian seasoning...
I do agree, if your temps and humidity is correct they shouldn't have any problems in the first place.

If you want to see your snake shed loads of scales, then use olive or mineral oil! Works everytime.

Re: Olive oil?
Wow I even got a photoshopped snake salad pic with that question! Tigger is a new aquisition guys. I purchased him this way. He is otherwise healthy and I watched him feed before I got him. One of his eyecaps did not shed off and there is a small amount of old skin on the side of his head but the rest of him looks good. I have never heard of anyone using olive oil before today but now I know it makes scales fall off and some people hungry. Anyways I was hoping after soaking him it would eventually fall off and it has not so I have been seeking alternative methods. This was one that was suggested to me. Seems to have been a bad suggestion (why I checked it out first). Good to know I can come here and get helpful advice.
