    Heat question

Ok let me describe my set up real quick before I ask my question.

For my BP I have a hide on each side of the tank. Warm side is 90 degrees and the cool side is just a tad below 80. The snake is doing well, eating fine, there are no problems that I can see. But the cave on the warm side of the tank feels hot, like a heat rock, and this is worrying me.

If I use a lower wattage heat bulb the temp will drop too low so I've been using a 100w bulb. Now if using a heat rock is dangerous isn't a hide box or cave that gets too warm under the heat lamp just as bad?

I hope I'm explaining this right.

How are you measuring temps? Your hide may not be as hot as you think, get your thermometer and get a surface reading of the hide and see.
    lots of snakes

Nope because heat rocks malfunction and get VERY hot.Your cave hide only gets as warm as the direct heat rays from the light gets it.How do you measure your temps? I have a temp gun that costs $25 and i randomly check on my temps.

I have a dual probe digital thermometer and hygrometer.

I guess I worry too much about my snakes. I didn't even consider how heat rocks malfunction.

You can never worry to much .Majority of us treat our reptiles just like our kids just in a scaley version .
