50% Hets and a gamble
Let's say you're Jimmy, and you can only bring in about $10,000 a year for the next 4 years on BP morphs (money gets less every year as morph prices drop). You have the opportunity to buy 0.3 50% Hets for a ground breaking morph for $2500 each (bulk, maybe $6000 total). In two years you can buy 1.0 100% Het for around $5000. The following year you can breed them and hope that the ground breaking morph appears and you make your fortune.
The twist... you only planned on spending about half your earnings a year on re-investments, so these are the only investments you're probably going to make in hopes for a future pay off.
Also, you have a 1 in 8 chance that all three of those 50% Het girls are normals (that also means you have a 7 in 8 chance for something!). And even if one or two are true Hets, you only have a 1 in 4 chance per egg that your homozygous morph will appear (that is, if they produce at all).
Would you take that gamble? Or would you go the safe way and re-invest in a lower, more predictable morph (Het females and morph male) with less chance of a fortune but more stable income?
Gut check, people. Think this through and be honest.

Re: 50% Hets and a gamble
Too much would you could you/how much money/investment stuff for me in that one. I buy what I like ... if there's a project I want to get into and I can afford it, I buy ... simple as that ... don't worry about the money stuff as that should always be secondary.
50% possible het girls are always great investments.
Buy what you love and the rest will work itself out over time ... I guarantee it.

Yeah I would agree on that for the fact that if it never proves out atleast it's a girl...but for me 50% is too much guessing and hopes...I wouldn't pay much more for a 50% than I would a normal just for that fact... For me I'd rather just stick with the 100%'s and the visuals...

Re: 50% Hets and a gamble
50%ers are a great fun gamble if you are not depending on it for your livelihood..
If you are, spend the extra cash and work with a trusted breeder to get your 100%ers.
If not, (like some of my projects) 50%ers ROCK!

I agree 100% possible het female's rock and are great investment's , I can't wait to breed my possible het girl's , If they don't prove out I will have two more breeder girl's anyway it's a win win situation.

It all depends on a persons budget & what they like personally. As Adam stated, just do what you like. I'd add that you should stay within your budget. As long as you like what you work with, and as long as you are not taking away from household bills, how can you really lose?

I have quite a few 50% ph girls and paid various amounts for them but I also bought from good sources.

Re: 50% Hets and a gamble
Ok, here is a math problem for you. I contact a breeder about a 100% het ghost female. We go back and forth and it and can't work out a deal. No biggie, it happens. In conversation I mention that I have a 100% het albino male. He says that he has 3 99% het albino females. Now, what is a 99% het, you may ask? Apparently, he attempted to breed a het male with a normal female. After a few months nothing happened, so he bred her with a visual albino male, they hit it off, and she produces a viable clutch. Because of the chance that this clutch is from stored sperm, he won't offer them as 100% het. I am buying them at a very good price, so even if they turn out to be normal, I am still ahead of the game. If I get even one albino then I believe that would prove them all, and I've hit paydirt. My fingers and toes are crossed.

Yes, he is a great guy, real respectable, downright upright. Did I recall the chain of events correctly?
