Do you use a hide in a rack system?

Hope that's not a silly question, I am starting to keep my snakes in iris and sterlite tubs. Just wondering if most people use hides, or just have a water bowl? All my snakes in glass tanks have hides, but from what I have seen , I think some snake keepers don't use hides in tubs.

I do, and every one my snakes uses them. I know of plenty of others who do not, though.

Depends how the rack setup is. Does the tub slide out long ways or sideways? Many people who have them longways don't keep one on the warm side because it is so dark there already.

All of my ball pythons use hides in their tubs and love them!

I do not have any hides inside of the 41qt tubs in my adult rack.I do have newspapers inside for the substrate and my male pastel hides amongst it also.He is the only one that hides lol.I have zero feeding problems out of them also.

All of my snakes are offered hides - both those in the rack and those in the tubs. It is dark in there without the hides, but my snakes use them, so they get them - it's not just the dark - it's feeling something touching them as well.

Re: Do you use a hide in a rack system?

I do not offer hides in my smaller rack but my sub adult and adult I do. If I am using the ARS gray tubs I will not. The gray tub eliminates the amount of light and movement that the animal sees. Cuts down on stress. If I am using the clear or opaque tubs then yea I offer a hide.

Even with darker tubs, in my experience, balls like the feeling of being touched on all sides ... a small tight space for them to cram into adds to their security ... also, having a hide over the heat tape creates a third thermal gradient in the enclosure for them to take advantage of.

Adam your experience is GOLDEN. I'll get me some of those cheap plastic hides and hook them up. never hurts to try something new. Thanks

I actually have a BP that does not use her hide... She was kept without one for a good while, but I decided to get her one just in case she wanted it. She used it that day but never again.
