soaking in water dish

one of them got in it's water dish for the first time ever that we've noticed, I haven't seen any little critters on them, I've searched a couple times (how hard are mites to see?) ..... if they get in the water does this mean that they positively have mites or could it be something else, like cooling down or prepping for a shed?

Could be any number of reasons...


--Mites
--Trying to cool off (the cage temps are wrong)
--Trying to fit into a tighter hide than what is available
--Just ate a big meal and is trying to relieve some of the pressure by "floating"

it did eat last night .... but there's not really a visible lump today

if she soaks a lot and you dont notice black little spots in the water sooner or later than it isnt mites and she probably just wants to soak for her own snake reasons...

could I have brought them home on a decoration bought from a pet store?
what if the mites get in your couch? will they just die eventually?

Don't just clean, you need to treat the cage with Provent a Mite. Mite eggs could be transferred to a wide area, and the mites themselves can travel a ways as well.

And you need to quarentine your infected guy after a good mite treatment just to make sure. I dont know what kind of bedding your using but switch to paper towels after you treat your snake and cage. It'll make the mites easier to see and also make keeping the cage clean easier while your treating the animal.
