    Shedding Question!

Some little bits of my BP's shed has been coming off but not all! It has been a couple days since his shed has been like this should I soak him in a tub for a little bit? I mist him and mist his cage about 2-3 times a day and that doesnt seem to help! Or should I just wait for him to do it on his own?

try making a humid hide for it.

get a container, place some spagnum moss , and spray it, and place it on the hot side

    Re: Shedding Question!

Hot side? I already got one of those Cave 3-1 humid hides with moss in it. But its on the cool side IP will move it to the hot side ASAP. This is my first snake and I am still figuring out what works and what doesn't but I want the absolute best care for my snake! What if this does not work however?

    Re: Shedding Question!

I live in a very dry Southern California and the moss hide is real helpful but what I also found helpful if when you notice your snake is in shed keep the humidity in the enclosure higher until after shed. I will mist them more often and may put a wider larger water bowl to increase humidity. Don't go too over board with humidity because that can lead to illness but I find increasing it a little if the air is dry (winter heating will dry air) only during shed cycles is real helpful. Also you may want to decrease air flow in the enclosure during this time to keep humidity in. By no means make a swamp out of the place. If he has alot of retained shed take the other hides out for a day or so so he will stay in the moss hide. Your moss should be damp but not dripping wet. And don't leave it in there for more than 2 or 3 days max. You don't want to grow mold!!!!!!!

    Re: Shedding Question!

whenever a snake is going into shed, i mist the tank down daily, and move the water bowl to the hot side. If i needed mor moisture i would put a humid hide in there and/or mist twice a day. also, if you have a tank and the top is not covered, go ahead and do that too, it will increase the humidity.

I also wet a cloth bag, place the snake in, and tie it off. I let the snake rub around in it for a while, it usually lets things slough off quickly. Usually an hour is enough.

    Re: Shedding Question!

Thanks!! Yes, there is a lot of shed left try to get pictures tomorrow, I'm in minnesota and it gets pretty cold at night as you know. I have a ceramic heater and a 100 watt night light going at night wondering if that is overdoing it? Nightime temps. Warm side 87. Cool side 84-82 too warm for night? Misting with warm water also to see if that helps and have half of the cage covered.

Temps should be 90-94 warm side... 80-84 cool side....24/7. You don't need to drop the temps at night...so 87 definitely isn't too hot.
