People never cease to amaze me....
I haven't snoped this so I'm not saying it's 100% true but my husband just forwarded this to me.
"For all of you who purchase and receive gift cards, I thought this would be helpful going into the shopping season.
Well the crooks have found a way to rob you of your gift card balance.
If you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards
you may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card
numbers in the store and then wait a few days and call to see how much
of a balance THEY have on the card. Once they Find the card is
"activated", and then they go online and start shopping.
You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where they
do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public. Please share this with"
all your family and friends..."

Also be aware, that some stores are now charging 'maintenance' fees if the gift card is not used in a certain amount of time. Be sure you know all the terms involved before purchasing.

Re: People never cease to amaze me....
I work at giant eagle(grocery store chain) and we sell tons of gift cards on rack for everyone to grab, that sounds like some thing we heard of too. with the visa gift cards and american express cards, with the visa card you really have to watch because the bar code that they scan to activate it is not the bar code from the card, the card comes in this little enevlope sealed up, but on the back of the package is the activation code, so you could get a card activated at the store go home and open the package to get your card and its not there. they steal the cards wait for them to get turned on then use them...
