    warning: Zoomed Rheostat

My rheostat generally works well and I use it at its min, just to bump the room temperature of 80F to 92~F in the hot side and 82~F in the cool side. I have it hooked to 3" Flexwatt tape.

I woke up this morning and the temperatures in the hot side of my snake's tub was 130F and 100F in the cool side. The temperatures in the room were the same and I had not touched the configs.

I was surprised my snake was alive.

I think I am going to get a thermostat soon.

I've got 5 Johnsons and haven't had any problems. Some are singles, and others are the six outlet setup.

Only downside is for the three in MY bedroom, occas. I notice the clicking when they go off and on. They have a 1* differential (that I use) and they've been performing very well.

My bonus $$ will be for a couple more of the sixers so I can do away with and use the dimmers for something else.

Holy moley; I have used the ZM rheostats for years now with no problems.. what setting did you have it on? I keep mine at less than halfway up, and the temps are just right; then again, it is a bit warm in our house usually.

The room temp was 80~F. The rheostat was at the minimum possible ... If I turned the knob any more Counter-clockwise, it would have turned off. It's not the 500, its the cheaper one I have ... recommended by a member here. I will get a Helix T.

Definitely check your snake to make sure he has no burns on him. If he has any unusually red or brown spots on his belly I would take him to the vet to get checked out. And good luck with getting your temps back to normal!

I had a zoomed 500R just stop working and let the heat run full blast........cheap pet store thermostats are just that...cheap. $60 for a Ranco or even $130 for a helix is well worth the cost for the well-being of your animal.
