    Thumbs up she ate!!

My very first snake just ate for the first time (for me)!! It was amazing!! I am so relieved now.. she ate a mouse hopper. -This is what the breeder said he was feeding. It only took her about 3-4 minutes to strike- I was really surprised at how quickly the mouse stopped moving. then she got it all down-no problem! I got her on Sunday- and have named her Nona.

One question- the breeder who produced her said to keep temps at low to mid 80's. My temps are 90 on the warm side and around 78-79 on the cool side. she has always stayed on the cool side that I have seen. Is this ok? Maybe she is used to a little cooler temps?

Anyway- this website has been such a great source of information- thanks to all who have helped with my questions- I'm sure I'll have more. Here's one now: would it be ok to take her out and handle her for a while on Sunday?

    Thanks!!

Snakes will move around from the cool side to the warm side depending on what they need. This is called thermoregulation. Your temperatures look okay, so you shouldn't worry too much about cool side vs warm side unless you have two different hides... in which case your snake may prefer the hide that is more snug.

I think it would be acceptable to handle your snake after 48 hours, unless there is a visible lump inside the snake!

i have the same hide on both sides. I hope to take some better pictures of her on Sunday- she is "just" a normal, but I think she's quite pretty. we'll see how big i can get her in a couple of years, then decide if i want to try making more.

Personally, I'd increase the warm side to about 92 and the cool side to about 83... you don't want the cool side to be any lower than 80.

    Congratulations on the successful feed!
