someone told me that if a bp is feeding on lets say f/t rats and if you switch a feeding one week to f/t mice then it is possible that the bp may never go back to rats no matter how hard you try...

i have switched from rats to mice only when i had to but i doubt this "theory" is true...

anybody have this happen?

BPs are known to be imprint feeders but that being said most of mine eat whatever I put in front of them whether it's rats or mice.

We have some that aren't strongly imprinted on either rats or mice. We have others that will always refuse if we offer them anything other than their prey of choice.

i guess im lucky cuz mine will eat anything aswell...


so i guess its not that if they are eating rats and you feed them mice one time they might decide to never get of the mice, its just that if they prefer one type of rodent then thats what its going to be...

i have my 3 all on f/t now (took some doing to get my male to take f/t).

my largest female has never refused anything i have offered her be it live f/t mouse or small rat or even color ... its all food to her and she's gonna eat it.

my male on the other hand will only take white mice when i was still feeding him live it had to be white or he would hide from it. knowing that i have not even tried to feed him any other color f/t and it still has to be mice, he wont take a rat no matter what i have tried.

my newest little female i dont think i would have a problem getting her to take a rat once she gets a little bigger, she's not picky either (so far).

they all have their own personality or quirks just a matter of knowing your animal and learning to live with their quirks
