    For cleaning tubs..

..what solution do you use? I have only just started really using tubs for all of my BPs; I used dish soap in he past weeks, but there were lingering urate odors even after I scrubbed and rinsed. So I used a weak bleach solution today, rinsed well.. and no odor! So what do you guys/gals use? I have heard of something called Chlorohexadrine (am I getting that word wrong?) Are there any advantages of this product over just bleach? And will the bleach eventually eat away at the sterilite cntainers, weakenin them?

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

I use a bleach water mixture (1/2 capful to 32oz. of water (*approx*)) to clean my tubs, haven't noticed it causing any tub integrity problems. Chlorohexadrine (sp?) is what I plan to use in the future...just been lazy and haven't ordered mine.

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

Usually a 10 to 1 water/bleach solution, then a scrub with soapy water then good hose down in the shower....then I'm all sparkly clean! Oh you meant tubs....same deal!

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

I use a bleach mixture. I have been told never to use dishsoap because it can 1. not clean well, 2. leave a residue. When i didnt use a bleach solution, i used antibacterial soap.

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

I use dilute bleach when I pull the tubs for a good deep cleaning, but I use chlorhexidine for smaller jobs, as you can just spray and wipe. I don't know if it's just me, but the chlorhex. seems to clean up the dried urate really easily, plus I find the smell somewhat relaxing .

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

I usually start my cleaning day off with, filling the bathtub (not all the way) with the hottest water I can get and then pour in about 1-2 caps of bleach. I soak the first snakes stuff in that and let it soak while I dump the tub (and while he gets to have a nice warm bath in his own little box) I then rinse out the tub, rinse the soaked items (hides and water dish) I rinse them ALOT under hot hot hot water....let them air dry while I dry the tub and put bedding in, I then towel dry them the rest of the way and put everyhting back...repeat 6 times....takes about 1.5 hours lol.
I do drain and fill the tub between snakes...just incase the bleach didnt kill something, I also dump and clean the tub I let them soak in between snakes....takes alot of time and by the end I'm covered in bedding, sweat, smell like bleach and my hands are prunes

Joanna cleans her self with bleach mixture and Evan thinks it smells relaxing... I dont know why other people think herpers are weird....

    Re: For cleaning tubs..

    I use chlorhexidine from http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.h...2-00b0d0204ae5

Much cheaper than it's Nolvasan counterpart(same stuff, but you pay for brand name and an added scent). Safe to use in cages and on the animals themselves(in mouths for stomatitis, etc).

I also use Parv-O-Way, which just kills anything in its path, like bleach does. It's nice and smells good, but is expensive.
