My BP was swallowing a mouse that was still alive?!?!

I have a 7 month old Ball Python, and he has never had a problem eatting since I started giving him live mice. However, today he constricted the mouse perfectly, and the mouse seemed dead but I noticed my snake twitching during the swallowing process and noticed that the mouse's legs were still kicking as he was going down. HE WAS STILL ALIVE! My BP got him down no problem, but I was really worried....Anything like this ever happen to anyone??

It's happened. I picked up a couple of free mouse fuzzies once and fed them off to my female gophersnake. I was shocked when she didn't constrict them at all, just started swallowing them alive.

Re: My BP was swallowing a mouse that was still alive?!?!

Kishnah often ate the mouse pinks live. And Pi$$y started to grab the rat's head after squishing, but the rat started struggling again, so P coiled up around it for about another five minutes before trying to eat it. By that time, the sm. rat WAS dead

It happened to me once. The mouse appeared dead but it twitched as my BP halfway swallowed it. But there wasn`t a problem.

I feed some of my larger girls rat pups sometimes and my reduced girl just crushes them in her mouth, not for the squeemish. I get the feeling she thinks they are too small to constrict.

My friend had a 3000 gram girl, fed her large adult mice (all she would eat). She would just bite then swallow apparently?

My snakes have never done that… would the mouse feel pain, from the digestive juices if it’s still alive?
