Head In The Air??

My BP today is stretching straight up in the air towards the lid of his tank, sometimes from the bottem of his tank sometimes from his tree branch. Is this strange behaviour or what? He's not due to eat till Sat.

It's common in ball pythons that have or are developing a respiratory infection ... since they lack to ability to expel mucus from their lungs via sneezing or coughing like humans do, they will typically sit for long periods with their heads elevated so that the mucus slides down into their lungs via gravity and allows them to breathe easier.

Keep an eye out for secondary symptoms like wheezing, whistling, bubbles, or extra mucus/saliva around the corners of the mouth and if you haven't found a reptile vet in your area, it might be a good idea to start looking just in case ... it's that time of year.

No one can diagnose a problem with your animal over the internet, I'm just describing one possibility ... if you have any serious questions about your animals health or well being, a trip to the vet is the best thing that you can do for your animal.

how do snakes get RI? low temps?

He's just getting over a RI. Maybe he is feeling better! There is no mucus or bubbles anymore he actually seems alot stronger and active since he ate on Sat. Mind you I didn't hold him for 48hrs.

He seems to be checking out the lid on the top of his tank, thank god for locks!

LOL... Mine does it all the time. He doesn't keep his head up for long periods of time, but it does seem as if he's checking out the lid. Then, he'll go to a corner and climb as far as he can, sometimes touching the lid and nudging it with his nose....

I was alittle worried cause acouple of times he fell over or off his tree. I thought he might hurt himself!
