Blackouts?
In the morning, i woke up, and found my house with no electricity. so i quickly got some dispoable heat pads and placed them in my 3 tubs. temps went down , one tub was in a colder area went down to 67 degrees and the other two went down to 71. the snakes were cold! they all ate last night, but luckily none of them regurgitated.... the electricity were up again later on in the morning. i think electricity went out between 2-4 am, and i woke around 6:30
i checked on them and they seem to be doing fine, all warm and toasty
but how can i prevent this from happening again? and how breeders deal with possible black outs?
thanks

Re: Blackouts?
A generator would be the only way to not have a blackout effect you at all.
Otherwise I would think the temporary heat pads would be the way to go, I would maybe have a set of smaller enclosures that would be easier to heat if you're in an area prone to blackouts.

Re: Blackouts?
A generator is something that keeps the electricity running no matter what. Also here is a link of where you can get a generator.

Re: Blackouts?
A small generator or get a back up battery. I use my computers heavy duty surge protector/battery for my snakes.

Walmart, Target, Costco, and computer stores are just some of the places you can get those.

Re: Blackouts?
I'm actually in the same situation right now. I guess the power was flicking on and off all night, at was finally off at 5 this morning. I called the power company and supposedly the power was supposed to be turned back on by 11, but knowing them, it won't be on until at least 4. The temp had gone down a few degrees, but not as much as I expected. It's particularily worrisome as my room is the coldest room in the house (as it's exposed on 3 sides, and one side has a cold storage room along it). I wraped their tanks with towels to help hold the heat in, and I just hoping that the power is back on now.
I'm at school, and I was seriously considering bringing them with me so I could keep them warm (as I couldn't miss classes today), but I worry about regurge as I fed them last night (and it was a day later than normal for various reasons, so yeah, it really came back to bite me in the ass). When I have the money I plan on getting a solar powered generator from canadian tire so this won't happen.
If I had stayed home I would have turned on a propane heater, but I can't leave it unattended. So here's to hoping they are okay!
