Selective Pastel Breeding

When breeding a male pastel to normal females how much of an impact can the females coloration have in regards to how the offspring will show the pastel trait? My female is very typical wild type, lots of pattern, lots of brown and some solid black. Is this going to make my pastel offspring not as yellow as it could be by breeding to a lighter female, or does that rely mostly on the quality of the pastel being bred?

I think its pretty variable but I know people have had great success with selectively breeding Pastels to light normals. I am sure others could add more as I have not produced any Pastels yet.

With the limited number of pastel clutches I've hatched, the pastels from a clean high gold female were head-and-shoulders above all the pastels from the same sire and more typical normal girls. It has just as much to do with the quality of the pastel being bred as the female, and hatchlings from the same clutch can still differ substantially, but breeding a bright normal girl will likely have very positive results (especially starting out with that male of yours ).

Thats exactly the reason I wouldn't want to waste my time breeding to a girl that isn't going to give me the best results. I want to make the most of my smokin daddy! Seems like I'll be looking around for a big girl now Time for a rack lol.

This is the female I'm referring too. What do you think? She worthy of the pastel breeding or should I shoot for 50% Het albino's with this girl.

She's a pretty girl with a pretty reduced pattern, but definately has more brown than golds. Looks almost identical to my female. You could find a lighter female for sure if you wanted.
