Feeding question.

Ceasar who has never missed a meal missed a meal 2 saturdays ago. Last week he hesitantly(SP?) ate. This week he again refused his meal. He is 3+ years old and almost 4 feet long. His temps are correct so that can't be the problem. he has hide boxes but he has never used them and has eaten without fail until just recently. I heard that they sometimes go off feed in the winter but it's only fall and not winter yet. Sorry this was long but if you have any suggestions as to what i could do I'd appreciate them.

What are you measuring your temps with?

Is he about to shed? I have a female that goes off feed when her belly is pink for some reason and won't eat till after shed.

Otherwise I would double check the temperature situation. Are his hide boxes too big? This could also lead to feeding issues, he should be nice and tight in his hides.

his hide boxes are perfect(nice and tight) I'm using an accurite digital thermometer to read temps and humidity. he just shed about a week and a half ago so thats not it either.

have you recently upped the size of his meal?

i would recommend feeding prey slightly thinner than the girth of the snake

well I got him from a girl who was feeding him 2 mice a week and that just didn't seem sufficient for a snake of his size so I began feeding him small rats. Maybe he just now decided he dosn't like rats. Next week I'll try feeding him some mice and see what happens.
