can you "make" mojaves and cinamons?
Hi,
I'm trying to beat some of this information on morph genetics into my brain - I appear to be "learning resistant"
I am also however "poor as a church mouse" and , while I love the two morphs mentioned dearly, they are so far out of my price range I couldn't hit them with a lottery win and a sniper scope
So I thought I'd ask what can be made using "low end" (price wise at least) morphs, time and 3 fat normal females
Figured this was one of those things best looked into a couple of years in advance as, until I source all the bits for the rack(s), I'm a bit short of space for impulse buying.
I finally found the british importer of sterilite boxes but they dont have a website and seem a bit slow at answering emails

Mojaves and Cinnies are base morphs. They are only produced from breeding Mojaves and Cinnies. Both traits are co-dominant.
If you are looking to save money, get a heterozygous recessive male and breed over the course of a few years.

Maybe you could try pastel's it's pretty much the starter morph. Look around there price's vary and their amazing animal's and under appreciated.

Make sure you can afford to breed the snakes before you buy the morph you want. Not only do you need the money for your morph, you will need money to provide for all of the hatchlings you may end up with. They will all need their own enclosures, heat and food...
If you are an extremely patient person, you can get a baby heterozygous albino male (around $150.00), grow him up, and breed him to your females. Then keep all the female babies you hatch and grow them up another few years, and breed their father back to them. Hopefully you'll end up with an albino hatchling from one of those females.
If you don't want to wait at least 2 generations, the next most affordable morph would be a pastel. I've seen male hatchling pastels as low as $200. They won't be pretty, and they might not be fat and eager to eat, but they'll be cheap. Grow that male pastel to breeding size and breed him to your females, and you should have a couple pastel babies when the eggs hatch.
I have seen male Mohaves for $795 - $3,000. Keep in mind when you are comparing prices you will get what you pay for.

Re: can you "make" mojaves and cinamons?
Hi Rapture,
Yeah I know whats involved with the breeding - I used to breed corns most years and leopard gecko's for a while. I'm hoping the rack I'm in the planning stages of will provide enough space - so far the best way seems to be one rack for the royals and one for the corns/house snake and hatchlings.Means 3 thermostats and heat cables but I can't see any better way of controling the heat well enough for my liking.
The het does seem to be the way to go for me as the prices here in the u.k. are a bit higher than the ones you enjoy at the moment;
pastel males seem to be around $900 - $1100
100% het albino pair is $1000
mojave male is $2800
albinos are $2600
cinamon female hatchling $3200
thats the lowest prices I could find anyway but hey I have time to wait and see if they drop a bit. I've had some of my royals for 11 years ( found the original feeding records last week and went all misty eyed) so I'm not really in any rush.
Besides if I'm lucky enough to get a job soon I might be able to actually afford to buy a cinny **crosses fingers, legs and eyes**

A lone het albino male should be less than half the cost of a pair, just in case you haven't seen any...

I have seen dozens of breeders with 100% het albino pairs for $550. Time and patience is key though.

There was a trio of het albinos (from a reliable source) up on KS yesterday for $500.
The original poster of this thread isn't in the US, though, so his prices are usually going to be a lot more than what we can get them for here.

Wow,
Talk about a blast from the past.
This came up on a search I ran trying to find pics of a rack I ended up building.
And to think I ended up buying a lesser and a black pastel eventually.
