Humidity...
So i am still learning about keeping temperatures and humidity where they need to be. My BP is in blue, and needs a good humidity...this morning when i left for school (at around 6:45) it was 63...when i came home today, it had dropped to 45! I didnt have a light on it, and the top is covered...It is a little frustrating. I know how to raise the humidity, but i have no controll over my cages while im at school, and wanted to know if there was a good way to keep the humidity at the right place.
Any other helpful hints other than putting the water over the heat source and a wet towel? (i know about misting and stuff like that, but i mean to maintain the humidity throughout the day)
oh, and by the way, now that i have started paying attention to all this stuff...it is such a cool balancing game! I couldn't wait to get home to check my snake's temps and stuff. lol.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Humidity...
I have found the absolute best way has been to have a humid hide in the cage, I used to use an old plastic sherbert plastic dish with the lid on and a hole cut in the side. I then put a couple handfuls of sphagnum moss inside and sprayed it down with plain water so it is damp, but not soaking wet. Austin always made his way into the container when he was in blue and I've never had a problem with sheds. Recently, I bought a Zoo Med Reptile Shelter http://www.reptiledirect.com/index.a...OD&ProdID=1012 to take the place of the plastic dish, and hopefully Austin will use that.

Re: Humidity...
Curious....what enclosure type you using? tank or tub? size? type of lid? number and type of holes? etc? Where do you live?

Re: Humidity...
it is a glass enclosure, 20 gal. long. I know those are the harder ones to keep, but i have it for display purposes, and im willling to put in the extra effort to keep it in good conditions for my little guy!

Re: Humidity...
From what I've read, the ideal humidity is somewhere between 50-60%, and the only time it needs to be higher is when the snake is going to shed so 45 isn't actually that bad. Maybe get a wider water dish with more surface area that will evaporate faster and stabilize the humidity levels.

Re: Humidity...
You could make a home made humidifier, which you can find in the DIY section on this site. It worked for me.

Re: Humidity...
It has a screen lid, but it is covered with tinfoil. The only part of the screen that is not covered are a few circles, so he can still get some air.

Re: Humidity...
I know that Cassandra uses an UTH under a large water bowl in her ball python's wooden enclosure. It keeps the humidity at 55-65. I think they explain it in the "new palace for Cleopatra" thread. If you do a search, you may find it.
