    PE-1 vs. Accurite vs. Fluker

Ok so I'm still trying to get my temps where they need to be so I had to place another order for heat supplies; I decided to also pick up a temp gun. I supplemented my one foot heat tape with a 3inch strip on the cool side to try and get the temps up. I also insulated the bottom of the tanks, and this morning before work I insulated the tops of the tanks, I'll see how that affected the overall temps when I get home.

I've been playing around with the temp setting on the t-stat and now have it at 98degrees. My accurite says 87 and 77, my temp gun says 85 and 83. I also have a flukers thermometer with the accurite and that was reading 84 on the warm side.

Question is which of these guys is the most reliable way to be measuring my temps? When using the temp gun I put it up to the warm hide opening and took the temp. Is that how I should be using it to get the most out of it?

    Thanks everyone.

Wonderful question Rich, I have actually began to wonder because I too have noticed differences in the readings from one device to the next....

from what I know, temp guns measure surface temps. the accurite and flukers measure air temps.

Whats the reason behind this? With bps being so sensitive to their husbandry reqs, I'm lost on which device to trust. Should I just invest in a high quality digital thermometer? I'm going nuts trying to get these tubs set up right.

I'll shoot him a PM about it. For the meantime though I have to trust one of these, my pastel gets here the 25th and he needs a home, of the three I would Imagine the flukers is most accurate. I say this because I had it hooked up to the heat tape and it read 98 degrees just like my t-stat prob. But I don't know with all the variance between the three, I can' decide.
