    Dry poop?

Today, I was holding my BP, and then I hear a farting noise, and a little piece of dried poo came out of her cloaca. Is this really bad? I searched it, and I found that the farting is normal, lol, but I didn't see any threads about dry poop. I was thinking she might be deyhrydrated, but her water bowl is almost always full, and I've seen her drink a couple times. I've only had her for about 3 weeks, and this is the first time she's attempted to "poo".

    Thanks for the help,
    Alyssa

well... since you haven't seen ball python poo... perhaps it was normal. it's kinda like cat poo... - is that what it was like?

    Re: Dry poop?

Are you talking about a dark brown stool much like what cat poop looks like, or a whitish mass? One is poop, the other is urates and is a normal part of their urinary habits (they pass both liquid urine and solid urates as well as feces).

    Re: Dry poop?

No, it was completely dry; I actually saw it fall on the ground. It was the brown part, not urates. I have a corn and she poops perfectly fine. It looked like a sort of twisted piece of bark.... :/

    Re: Dry poop?

Well their feces are fairly solid and formed really but if you are concerned that it's too dried out you might want to check that the snake is hydrated properly. Does it have constant access to a fresh bowl of water? Is it's enclosure in the proper range for humidity (50-60%)? If you very gently pinch a bit of skin on it's lower body does it snap right back or "tent up" for a few moments? Does the snake look healthy...nice and chunky with tight healthy skin or is it sort of thin with saggy, loose skin?

Remember if you have any concerns about the health of your snake, no one online can do anything but encourage you to contact a good vet experienced with herps.

    Re: Dry poop?

She has water avaliable all the time, and the humidity's been chaging around lately, but it's always in the 50's. A couple days ago it was 61. I just tested her skin and it didn't tent up... maybe she's fine. She looks perfectly healthy to me, at least. She's had three mice already and the only poop she's had is thel ittle piece of "bark". It seriously looks like a little piece of Repti-Bark.

I'll call a vet today, like you suggested.
