Leave a name or something!
ThreadDateComment my snake made a burrow!10-08-2006 10:51 PMwhat?? when you cant make any counterpoints you just do smileys as a defense or something?? i dont get it.
Actually, I was just doing smilies because I was being silly. Why can't people that leave me negative or positive comments leave a name or screen name so I can PM them to explain my intentions, without having to drag it out here for everyone to see.
There's a lot that you the comment writer and everyone else won't get about me, and you know what, that's cool with me, I don't mind being the one with the opinions that aren't favored as the norm. It actually feels good to have different opinions than everyone else.

Re: Leave a name or something!
Ya know....I think people are starting to get way too wrapped up in the whole rep system. Seems like everyone wants an explaination for every neg rep they get. It's really not a big deal. If they bother you...then try not to annoy people. If you live your life saying "I don't care what others think, I'm gonna speak my mind"....then don't worry about 'em.
People are going to give them because we can't please everybody all the time....and its way too easy to misunderstand or misinterpret something someone says in this medium. If the neg-rep bothers you...then learn from it. If you can't/won't learn from it...then ignore it. You don't have to "explain yourself" to anybody.

If it's not a big deal can the rep system be gotten rid of all together?
It is not my intention to come to this site to make people upset or anything. I came to this site, because I like the way it is layed out. The people here seem nice and the advice is free. I was also looking to offer advice to people on subjects that I know about, mainly snakes, however it seems that my advice has not been taken as well as I would have thought. I didn't know that I had to PHd to offer my adivce. I dunno, I just like to have fun and sometimes my fun looks like I am being sarcastic but I'm not, that's just the way I am. Well, that's my little rant for the night. Good night and have a good one Oh yeah, I mean no one any hard feelings towards anyone, I now know not to take things personally so I'm more relaxed with that and it'll show! Anyways, good night!!

Re: Leave a name or something!
Well, the rep system isn't perfect...but it has some useful purposes, so it'll stay.
As for the rest...I'm really glad you found your way here and decided to stay. But it's just like any community of people and sometimes it takes awhile to get to know the new folks....to be able to understand their humor and such. Especially in a completely silent and virtually expressionless venue such as this...all we have to go on is letters on a screen (and animated smilies if we're lucky!)...so sometimes it's really hard to tell when someone is joking or serious if you don't already know them well.
And so far as I know...no one here has a PhD in anything...(maybe Mendel or Dread, but I dunno! ). We have a very wide variety of experience and learning and again, it's just a matter of folks getting to know you. Sometimes a person has to work a bit to establish their credibility when they walk into an already fairly well educated/experienced community. That's not at all to say your advice is unwelcomed...just saying that sometimes its wiser to be willing to listen and speak quietly for awhile until folks know you better.
And this isn't a lecture directed at you specifically...just at anyone who's new here and is feeling like they have a hard time fitting in. Be patient...give people a chance to get to know you....work on how you communicate things like jokes or sarcasm....and just be willing to listen and learn.
