    sort of a breeding loan...

I have agreed to breed our pastel male to my man's brother's female for him. For payment, I am getting one of the babies (a pastel, definately.) The agreement is, I will take in his female, after I breed my 2 females to the male, this year. His girl is big, well over 1800g.
Does this sound reasonable? I plan on typing out everything for him to sign. I am not losing out on anything but a sperm plug. Granted, I will be doing all of the work (incubating the clutch, etc) and the ball is still in my court; I may tell him I want two of the babies. So how does this sound?

i would go for first pick and half the clutch, no less.

you have the morph, you do the breeding, and you are doing the incubating!

Jen,the way my freind and i have a contract wrote up for the breeding of my female to his spider is as follows. He gets first pick of the spiders,i get second pick and so on until they are gone.In the possability of a odd spider number he gets it.One clause is i am gauranteed one male spider. Then the normals i get first pick and he gets second until all are gone.In the event of a odd normal i get it.Make sure that both of you agree to this contract and sign in front of someone as a witness. We also wrote in that in the case no offspring are produced the contract is over and i get my female back.

I agree! Look at it this way, Last year I bred a pastel to a normal I got 6 eggs. 5 pastels 1 normal.. You would be losing out on alot more then just a (spermplug) LOL!

Yeah, I am talking it over with Mark tonight. I want more than just 1 or 2. We'll go halvesies, at least. Thing is, this is a mega female; I am thinking she'll be a good producer. Kind of like a way to get some extra babies out of this seasons' breedings. I just wanted some advice here.. the alternate-picking option that Joe suggested sounds perfect.

Jen,i did forget one thing. My female does not leave his facility until he is 100% sure she is not gravid. This protects everyone including my female, say he sends her back to me and she starts to drop her eggs in transit. She could die and we would lose the eggs .I know you will not be shipping his snakes but its still a item to include in the contract, that he does not get her back until you are positive she is not gravid.

My female in that range of weight dropped 11 eggs on her first clutch.

Re: sort of a breeding loan...

I never actually weighed her; actually she may be heavier. I shouldn't have posted that weight without weighing, I admit; but it jusut seems like a good estimate. She is pretty massive; wider than a soda can and a little flattish.
One thing that is making me rethink this though, is, what if she has internal parasites? I am going to have to get some proof that he's eradicated any before this happens.
