humidity in tubs. questions.

Hi,
so ive had my snakes about a week.
they both ate f/t fuzzy rats the other day.. which is great..

i decided to put a little stick on bar style humidity gauge in one of my tubs.. and i cant seem to do anything to get the humidity up past like.. 30% (given my setup makes each tub exatly alike i only got one...)
im thinking maybe the gauge thing is bad. but i dont really know

so how can i get the humidity up..
right now im using newspaper as a substrate. is there something else.. good n cheap i could use.. does aspen keep humidity?
ill take some pics of my setup asap and post them.

well, I believe the sticky guages are crap. I use the digital ones which also measure hot and cool side temps. It's called acu-rite(they should sponsor this site from all the endorsement). Now about your humidity being too low in a tub, well do you have a water bowl in their, cause where ever it is the humidity will be well above 30%, and you will have to soder some holes around the tub due to the humidity being too high. Also, what kind of tub are you using?? And yes, Aspen bedding does hold moisture. hope this helps

OK,
so finally i have some pics of how i built my little temp rack.



as you can see i just used peg board on the top. and its built so i can easily add more levels.

the white stuff is fanfold insulation. (styrofoam...) and i keep it pulled most of the way foward on top so that some cool air can vent as well as the warm air under the plywood (OSB)
the rest of it is built out of fern strip..

anyways..

then worked my own little magic to make it a side by side..
i could technacally make it wider easily.

i really like it.. but unno its getto lol..
i used 31qt rubbermaid locklid tubs

and i have digital thermometers on the front of the tank to measure the hot spot.. in the back.. lol
