    Animal Planet?

I would love to see a show on Animal Planet about the hobby. I remember years ago seeing a show about VPI on National Geographic I think it was. Look at how many dog shows, dog training shows, dog breed shows and pet shows in general they have.

Yet, no snake shows showing all the different snakes we keep, morphs, care, facilities, feeding, breeding, shows like Daytona. Something showing the hobby in a positive light.

    Opinions?

Herp lovers are a rare breed. How many people do you know that have snakes? and how many more have dogs? Hmmmmm

Yes but that is spread across the country...!

I don't even know anyone else to keeps snakes... other that 1 person (I work with) wh has 1 snake for her child. Poorly taken care of. I wish I could meet other people around me with the same interest in snakes. Both of us purchasing snakes would make it twice as easy for breeding projects!

I think it would be great to air some shows about reptiles... I think the majority of people that keep them are misinformed about how to care for them. I've seen shows on PBS on Sundays that are more aimed at younger audiences, but that's about it. I think it would be good to have some shows about the care of exotic animals. You see a lot of Croc Hunter type shows, but not much about keeping exotic animals in captivity.

That's what I mean, not another croc show or out in the jungle show, but a show directed to the hobbyist/keeper. A show well made, professionally shot and produced, edited, visiting facilities like NERD, VPI and others large and small to even the kid with a normal BP or Bearded Dragon. Explaining proper husbandry, breeding techniques, talk about morphs and how the hobby has grown, etc, etc. Again, placing a positive light on the hobby Vs Python ate cat or some guy in the Amazon wrestling a 4ft Anaconda. I think it would be great..

I'm pretty sure Animal Planet is viewed across country and beyond.

I would love to see that. I'm sure they would have more people watching than they think. I'm sure someone could get the e-mail address and the collective power of the herp sites would get some type of response.

It would be great to show people not familiar with the on-line sites how to care for their herps.

    Re: Animal Planet?

Personally I like the "croc shows" and "out in the jungle" and seeing reptiles or any animal in the wild. I'm not sure how one would cater a show your describing. Are you wanting to teach anyone willing to watch how to keep their own reptiles? Or just info on specific reptiles in captivity?...which would lead to basically the same thing.

Someone with the right means could make their own short videos or series and start out doing like podcasts or something.

    Re: Animal Planet?

    I don't mean me doing a show..lol.

But, maybe one of the more charismatic larger than life breeders with the knowhow and backing to pull it off, it would be interesting. I think it would be interesting to see a show that interviews specialists with certain snakes and visits various facilities, answers letters with questions, covers some of the bigger shows, see what other breeders are working on, etc, etc, etc.

I can't remember exactly, but I know VPI did one many years ago and it was just one show. I think a show about the animals, people, hobby and industry would be great.
