Some Gomez & Irwin pics (DU Warning!)

Got some really cute shots of Gomez in his tub last night, and thought I'd share. Such a sweet little dude. I love my squishy Gomez! On (small) adult rats already *sniffle* They grow up so fast!

Little Irwin is very hard to get pics of! So bitty and he doesn't have a very good grip ever so I'm more focused on his not falling off my hand than the pics, lol. He doesn't have a very good grasp of gravity.

And here's a shot of Ma-tsu watchin TV.

    Thanks for looking!

    Great pics!

Has Irwin displayed any of the rubber boas defensive mechanisms yet? That has always been something that I wanted to see....but maybe not smell

LOL awsome snakes! Are you stating that the snake is watching TV is full blue? Or is that just it's eye color?

Re: Some Gomez & Irwin pics (DU Warning!)

Every time I pick Irwin up, he everts at me, lol! But no real stinkiness. He settles down quick though and puts it away to start cruising, but he's not crazy about being hauled out of his tub at all.

And that's just the flash from the camera making Ma-tsu's eyes look blue, here's a shot of her when she's REALLY in blue! It's just like how my rabbits always look like their eyes glow red and my cat's eyes glow green with the camera flash. Blue Beauties are just blue through and through I guess, even eye light reflection wise! But yeah, she's blue white/cream and black/navy from nose to tail!

Tail striking...not whipping(although I do believe some snakes 'whip') As a defence mechanism, rubber boas will tuck unto a ball leaving their tail outside as a 'fake head' (look at her pics and compare the head and tail ). They can manipulate their tail to do the classic striking position and even strike.......and they also have a very strong musk that they spray outside their backend when doing this.

Like I said, it is something I have always wanted to see because it is a described defensive behavior in most field guides. I love to see how harmless snakes that have interesting defensive mechanisms use them....i.e. playing dead, tail rattling, balling up, and even musking or flinging feces... biting is just a small part of the game, but for some reason that is what everyone thinks of first when handling a snake.....and as far as nonvenomous snakes are concerned...i would rather be bitten than musked anyday of the week

Re: Some Gomez & Irwin pics (DU Warning!)

Little Irwin is a super docile little dude, aside from flashing me, so no afraid there's been no "butt strike". I'd really like to see that too (sounds SO cute!) but I certainly can't/shouldn't complain about docility! If he ever does start butt striking, I'm totally going to try and catch it on camera. I need a vid of that! I was kinda hoping he'd do it when I first got him out of the box, but alas nopers. He was just confused.

And yes, Gomez is one sexy snake and he's grown SO much! This is why we have to breed him some day, he's just too pretty not to!

I'd love to see this too - like the hognoses when they're babies can roll over and play dead, and puff up their hoods at you. My BP musked on me once - it wasn't very pleasant but I think I'd rather be musked on than be bitten though, so long as there was a shower nearby
