    Bedding question.

So we choose to use the various brands of shredded coconut husks as our bedding. As you all know you soak it to expand it, let it fry out and then place it into your clean environment.
Well being that we have 4 tanks I need to really bump up the volume at which I am soaking & drying. Mainly the drying.
I have been using a container that holds a gallon of water and a brick well, now I need to switch to a larger container so I can soak more bricks of the compressed bedding...thats the easy part that I figured out already.

My question is what can I dry it in? I have a kiddy pool, those cheap-o plastic pools and I thought "ah ah" until I realized I would have to keep in in my garage.....and I live out in the sticks so we get ALOT of bugs and critters in there....so I scratched that idea. Putting it in a rubbermaid or other container with a lid wouldnt make since being that it would hold in the moister and creat condensation.

I thought maybe I could just mix it in the morning and place it in the kiddy pool in the drive way in the sun to really rapid dry...but still I'm worried about the bugs........

So please help a lady out lol. I'm sure its this simple idea that I am not getting....switching to newspaper etc. But we like the shreds and find it works well for us, when we do get more snakes you can bet we will be switching to newspaper though.

    Re: Bedding question.

That does seem like a lot of work - and I imagine you'll be sick of it sooner than later. I use aspen myself - it doesn't have to be treated and it's ready to go!

Of course, even that becomes a pain as well and with the number of animals I have, I see my future with aspen will be shortening soon and I'll be making the switch to newspaper.

Lol. I knew it would happen sooner or later. If my corn snake didn't like to burrow in his aspen bedding so much, he would be switched too. I just don't have the heart to do it right now.

Maybe you could drill a lot of ventilation holes in the rubbermaid containers and still go that route.

Yeah that's what I was telling Brian today, I'm going to get a longer more shallow one and drill holes in it, that way there it will be shallow enough to not take weeks the dry out al lthe way and still be big enough to hold alot of it at a time.

We just have so many beetles and spiders around here, I'm going to have to keep it in the house in order to keep the bugs out I think.

    Thanks for everyones help.
