For those of you in colder climates

Well, here in Michigan, the temps are dropping (especially at night) and I was wondering if any of you use supplemental heating in your rooms, that your snakes are in?

I just purchased an oil-filled heater from Lowe's to use for those really chilly nights (so not ready for those yet ) Anyway, do you think this is a good idea or waste of money?

This will be my first winter with my cold-bloooded friends and I want it to go as smoothly as possible. I admit, I am kind of worried.

I was trying the heater out today and it seemed to make the humidity in my snakes tub rise. Now, I'm not sure what to do. I guess I could put more holes in my tub.

Basically, what I would like to know is....for those of you that have kept snakes for a while, in places that get pretty cold does anything change for you? Just wondering what to expect. Sorry so long.

yes, i use a room heater for my room in the winter. without it the temps would get too low. it works great.

as for humidity rising ive noticed the same thing. warmer air is, ofcourse, more humid. just drill more holes in the tub and you should be fine.

Besides their lights , I use a safe tip proof space heater in their room. Caution, most oil fueled space heaters give off somewhat toxic fumes. Most require good venilation, which usally doesn't exist in the home. Most homes are locked up to tight to allow proper venilation for oil heaters in the winter. Please check precautions on yours before using. Slightly toxic to us can mean a death sentence to a pet.

i have a heater hooked to a t-stat in my rooms year round.

The only thing i do is keep the furnace set at 74 during the winter months.I have never had to add anything to my basement(where the snakes are) to keep them warm as they each have there own UTH.

ain't Michigan great! I'm still in denial that its nearly fall.

I've always kept a heater in my snake room controlled by a tstat and its worked great. Only comes on when it needs to and makes for keeping the rack and other enclosures at good constant temps. I keep the room just a couple degrees below 80. The room doubles as an office and at any given time there are many computers going so in general the temp is around 80 +/- a couple degrees.
