    Exclamation Substrates and their temperatures...

Currently, I'm using an astro turf substrate, but am having problems keeping my cool side temperatures up above 80. I'd like to know if newspaper would hold more heat than the astro turf? Don't feel happy about going away from the gigantic bundle of turf I bought, but gotta do what ya gotta do.

Well, nobody responded so I went ahead and tried newspaper. YIKES, it keeps my cool side temps great, but I have to keep putting more and more on the warm side to keep it below 100. I need a thermostat, but damn they seem expensive. If I fail without one, I'll probably have no choice though.

Do a search online for a do-it yourself rehostat, for about 8 bucks, it is very easy and cheap, it just takes a 6' extention chord, a simmer switch, an electrical box, and electrical tape. I can't remember the link, but look into it you should be able to find it somewhere.

Or you could spend $2 more and get something reliable. Go to HOme Depot or Lowe's and get a Lutron Credenza lamp dimmer. You take it out of the package, plug heating pad into dimmer, and plug dimmer into wall. Dim all to your heart's content.

Not to mention, no house fires, which is a plus.

Ok, so I went with the light dimmer as suggested since it sounded much more simple, although it was $10.99 instead of $2.00 . Been at work all night, so I'm going to bed for now and will try it out later. Thanks to both for the assistance.
