    Newbie Temp?

    My son wants a Snake.
    Glass visionarium 30 x 12 x 12 screen top.
    Substrate beadabeast.
    Herpstat ND.
    Acurite thermometer.
    Flexwatt
2)hides gonna wait & see what size snake.
    2) Dr. in the city.

This is the plan I have not bought the flexwatt or the Herpstat ND.
    A) Will flaxwatt work in this set up to get the temp? Or (B) cover up the
    the screen.
If those don't work will Herpstat ND control the flexwatt & a top heat
    source

The Herpstat will control one of the heat sources... not both... The Herpstat II will support two heat sources... But you don't need the top heat source if the room is warm enough. If the room temps are in the low to mid 70's, then the flexwatt will handle the floor temps, and the ambients should be okay... if not, you can just put a CHE, or red incandecent at the proper wattage to adjust those ambients. (50-75 or 100 watts)

You might also consider going with a plastic tub setup... (Sterilite, Rubbermaid, Isis, etc..) ...much easier to control temps/humidity.

Tubs are way easier than aquariums and very practical.

Not good looking but you probably won't see your snake much anyways, socwhy all the hard work for nothing?

I understand about wanting a nice set up for a first snake, having it look natural and all. If you get more, snakes you may want to look into racks or rubbermades, but for a kid to look at and try and find the snake glass works well.

    Re: Newbie Temp?

Right, there's no point in trying to get someone to switch to tubs if looks is what they're after. There's nothing wrong with going for looks..It is possible to manage temps and humidity in a tank..it just takes a little extra work, but it can be done...I know, i've done it before.

Having said that, It is not necessary to buy either a tank or a rack. There are some beautiful enclosures that hold temps and humidity quite well and are visually appealing.

Neil Golli used to sell some but i don't see them on his web site right now.

So, if you've already got the tank and want to go that route, then what was previously said by ddbjdealer should do the trick for you.
