Hi, I'm getting a bp soon and I wanted to keep him/her in a tub because of the humidity problems that can be associated with other enclosures. I live in the UK where I find it difficult finding a new tub and I saw a tub in a pet store the other day with a lid with lots of vents, I didn't get down the name but I'm pretty sure it was an Exo-Terra Critter Keeper that I've seen mentioned before, can they make suitable enclosures?

THey are pretty brittle plastic - and crack fairly easily when cleaning - and that I learned only from having some of the much smaller smaller ones for tarantulas - I imagine one big enough to house a BP may be more prone unless they make the plasstic thicker.

The heavily vented top might be problematic in efforts to retain humidity - being the equivalent of a screen lid.

No options for department or variety stores that mgiht carry rubbermaid or sterilite bins?

For the love of all things holy, please don't attempt to house a ball python in a critter keeper! A 10gallon tank with a screen lid would be 10 times better, and IMO, even that way is a poor method of housing.

I think they totally should rename the thing "critter carrier" cause that's the only thing I use em' for......and the corners esp do crack very easily on them....I've had mice squeeze right through a cracked corner I was unaware of, covered up by the god awful pink neon vented top.......almost got into a car accident, cause I look over, and here's a mouse perched atop the head rest in the front seat!!!!

You see, this is why I always check! There isn't such a thing as sterilite or rubbermaid over here, I think I'll just use a wood and glass vivarium. There isn't any problems with those that can't be corrected with careful maintenance and observation are there?

get a 10 gal and put a piece of plexiglass or a piece of plywood over it and no more humidity problems. i keep my baby boa in a 10 gal with the plexi with some holes drilled in it and my humidity keeps a constant 55-60%. Just use an UTH and not a red light at first. If your temps are still low with the UTH on at full power(use a thermostat or a dimmer), then add a red light if you want, that's when humidity becomes hard to control

Well I wasn't going to use a bulb, just a UTH on a thermostat and digital thermo/hygrometer to make sure it's OK, I get bulbs with the deal I'm going to use anyway so I'll keep them just in case.
