Hissing that sounds like a Wiizzzzz

Something weird happened last night. I went to check on my Ball and he started hissing in a very stange way It sounded more like a wiiizzzzzz. Like he had something in his lungs....

What the hell could that be? Boid Inclusion Body Disease?? I sure hope not. Is this airborn transmitted because I have my RTB in the same room

I bought him in a pet store, I really regret it now because I never even saw him drink nor eat.I have had him for 3 weeks now

I feeded him a mouse after the week in settling in since it was 2 weeks he didnt have a meal (a week before I bought him) The guy at the pet store told me he had to constantly force feed him. So this what I did. He took the mouse really well. Now last night still in a shedding process or something I went to check on him. And I heard that crazy sound comming from him.

    Any opinion on that matter??

I am activly searching a vet that specializes in Exotic animals this morning.

There's a couple of links that should help you find a vet.

Could the snake be getting ready to shed? Sometimes a bit of dry skin will get in the nasal passage and cause a weird sound when they breathe. But if its happening when it hisses, I'm not sure. Could be an RI (Respiritory Infection). I would suspect that before I would suspect IBD.

As for the not eating...there could be a lot of reasons for it not eating. The first step would be to determine if its environment is set up just right. So if you want to describe your setup, we might be able to help you find clues as to why its not eating.

But a trip to the vet is the first order of the day. It could also be internal parasites that have suppressed the little guy's appetite. So be sure to ask about that as well as the weird sounds.

    My Setup goes like that

I provided him with 2 hidespots, 1 x 16w Zoomed UTH, a 60W UVA lamp that runs for 11 hours a day (7AM-7PM) He has a large Water bowl (unclorinated water of course)

To be honest I didnt pay attention (and I am very sorry for that) I really cant tell what the substrat is. The guy at the petstore gave me a bag of redish kinda wood. It definitly does not smell like cedar, in fact I really hope its cedar. I just dont know what it is.

Temperature rage from 90F warm Hidespot - 82F cool Hidespot. Humidity is between 55-70% in general. Now that he is shedding I pumped up the H% to Mid-70's.

The Vet just called me, and told be that IBD is extremly rare here in Quebec...its most likely a Pneumonia or something.

What kind of substrate, if any, are you using? I used a redish type of substrate myself when I started (when amateur) with my Python more that two years ago. I had a similar problem and I suspected the substrate. I took it away and my problem stoped. I now use a carpet like material, it's harder to keep it clean, but it sure is safer for the snake. You should see a vet to be sure that she gets proper attention. Good Luck.

I'd pull that substrate out of there right away and replace it with plain ol' newspaper. Once you're sure your snake is healthy and eating properly and regularly, then you can try "prettier" substrates if you wish, but you really have to know what you're putting in there.

Hopefully the vet will be a good one and be able to help you pin down exactly what's going on. Maybe take a sample of the substrate in with you as well.

I have a feeling you meant to say "I really hope its NOT cedar". But, just in case, cedar is really bad news for bps. Softwood (evergreen) in general should not be used. Cypress mulch is ok, and aspen is good.

I am sorry to tell you this but the carpet stuff is not safer for your snake. It can retain mold and other discusting things and its just about impossible to see if it needs changing.I use newspapers for a couple reasons, its easy to clean up and its readily available. It also provides my snakes with something else to hide amongst .

When I said carpet, I didn't mean the ones made of fabrics. I use the one that is made of plastic, that comes specially designed for reptile cages (green or brown). It's easier to clean than a fabric made carpet because it doesn't retain moisture at all. I always use a disinfectant like Wipe Out that kills most bacterias. Thanks for your advice anyways.
