    Dewormer

Just getting a little ahead of myself, but I took in a fecal sample today and am waiting on the results.

Last time a fecal came back it was positive for pinworms and I was given Panacur. The vet instructed to admin the meds. once a day/for 5 days. Some replied that that seemed weird, and it was no fun either.

This is a new sample from a different snake, if this turns out positive most likely all in the collection will have something as well.

In this case is it alright to admin. Pyrantel instead of Panacur to all? I'm sure the vet will offer panacur again, and with 10 snakes it could get a little pricey. To save an arm and a leg??? What do you think?

You might want to read this thread: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...rnal+parasites

I used a wormer that had pyrantel and praziquantel which takes care of pretty much any internal parasite.. only two dosings were needed, two weeks apart. I ordered the pills from petshed.com, they came quickly and were inexpensive.

Yes and thank you. I have read and taken notes on that topic extensively this morning.

You also used a dewormer that had another drug called febantel. How did that work for you?

I'm waiting to see what the vet will say, and go from there.

I most likely will have more questions especially about the dosing. I've seen the math and calculation but I'm stiull trying to figure out where you got the number for the recommended dosage. Did this come from the drug itself?

    Thanks a bunch

    Re: Dewormer

This is what petshed's generic wormer contains: http://services.apvma.gov.au/Pubcris...ts&pcode=57878

so.. each pill has 50mg of praziquantel.

Dosage for prazi is 8mg per kg of snake's body weight.

So say you have a 2kg snake.

    2kg x 8mg = 16mg of prazi needed

Each pill has 50mg so.. 16mg divided by 50 = .32 of a pill. If you mix 1 CC of water with the crushed pill, you'd draw up .32 CC of the mix for the snake.

Is that a known...meaning text book info, etc..., or would it say so on the bottle?

    Re: Dewormer

Also...for the smaller snakes weighing in at only 20 gm / .02 kg, it seems incredibly small to dose out that much. I know it said you rounded up, but is that OK with prazi?

    Thanks again
